NEW ROCHELLE, NY- The great array of free summer programs for all ages is in full swing at the New Rochelle Public Library. Both the Main Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library continue offering a wide variety of free programs that encourage students to use the libraries’ rich resources and boost reading abilities while school is out. In addition to these weekly workshops, and daily “Summer Fun on the Patio” at Huguenot Children’s Library, a number of family-friendly programs will take place in the Ossie Davis Theater of the main library during the weeks of July 27th and August 3rd.
The Disney Summer Hit Parade movie, The Moon-Spinners, will be shown on Monday, July 27th and the movie, Island at the Top of the World, will be featured on Monday, August 3. Both movies start at 6:00 pm and are appropriate for all ages.
Aszmara, one of the region’s most acclaimed belly-dancers, will perform to live music from the Middle East as part of the International Music and Dance series, on Tuesday, July 28th at 7 pm. On August 4th, Bokandeye, the popular African Drum and Dance Troupe, will perform their annual show celebrating the traditions of African villages. Both hour-long shows start at 7:00 pm, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis, to the capacity of the 138-seat Ossie Davis Theater.
On Wednesday, July 29th, a series of Films from Picture Books for the Younger Set will provide enriching entertainment for children ages 2 – 6 years, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The following week, on August 5th, musician Evan Gottfried will take the stage for a Live Show for the Younger Set at 10:30 am.
“Nature Adventures in Your Own Backyard” will be presented by a naturalist from the Sheldrake Environmental Center on Wednesday, July 29th at 2:00 pm. Children in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to discover the natural world up-close-and-personal. On Wednesday, August 8th at 2:00 pm, the 2014 film, Paddington, will be the featured Family Film.
