WHITE PLAINS, NY –County Executive Robert P. Astorino invites you and your family to grab some pails and shovels and head over to the second annual Sand Castle Competition on Saturday, August 1, at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle.
“There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to give your family an excuse to spend the day playing on the beach,” Astorino said.
While sand castles are welcome, participants are encouraged to create any type of sand sculpture or figure they would like. Judges will be looking for creativity, height, technical difficulty and use of space. Participants must bring their own shovels, pails and building tools.
Registration will run from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The contest begins at 11 a.m. and run through 3 p.m. Judging will take place between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winning teams.
Registration fee is $10 per entry and is payable on the day of the event. Space is limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The contest is open to Westchester residents only, and proof of residency must be provided with a Westchester County Park Pass or a New York State driver’s license. Daily parking and beach admission fees will apply.
Rain date for the competition is Sunday, August 2.
Glen Island Park is located on Pelham Road in New Rochelle.
