NEW ROCHELLE, NY —The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its 2014-15 Academic Honor Roll with Iona College placing a school record 184 student-athletes on the list. It was the fifth highest among MAAC full-time and associate member schools. For the fourth straight year, first-year student-athletes completing two semesters at the institution were eligible for the list.

Nine Iona student-athletes maintained a 4.00 grade point average including lacrosse freshman Gabriella Di Domizio, women’s rowing freshmen Yaritza Ayala and Elise Tarrant, men’s soccer junior Jacobo Aparicio, women’s soccer freshman Anna Higdon, softball freshman Courtney Miller, men’s swimming sophomore Dylan Mechanic, men’s cross country junior Kalen Sullivan, and women’s cross country graduate student Tara Jameson.

Fourteen addtional Gaels boast a GPA of 3.90 or higher. Graduate student Jeylani Dublin (basketball), senior Regina Neumeyer (cross country/track), juniors Dana Andrea (water polo), Jon-Luke Ferrandino (men’s soccer), Cassandra Gill (cross country/track), Caitlin McGurran (rowing), Sarah Schutz (softball), sophomores Maria Lopez (swimming), Kara McKenna (cross country/track), Michael Pepe (rowing) and freshmen Madison Kirch (rowing), Kendall Magill (swimming), Christine Rebus (soccer), Brittany Toro (water polo) each held the distinction.

A record 2,071 athletes were honored for their achievements both academically and athletically as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the 2014-15 MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

Iona surpassed its previous record of 171 set during the 2011-12 academic year. Last year, the Maroon & Gold had 168 members on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, an athlete must hold a grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members of the MAAC with athletes represented in all 25 sports that the conference sponsors.

Though not recognized on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll because the sport is not sponsored by the league, Iona men’s water polo had eight student-athletes achieve a GPA of 3.20 or higher
