WHITE PLAINS, NY –Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino Thursday unveiled a new plaque designed to mark the 100th anniversary of the Grand Carousel at Playland Park in Rye. Joining Astorino were County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor and Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia, along with carousel fans and park visitors The historic ride’s 66 bejeweled, hand-carved horses and three chariots provided the backdrop.
“This magnificent ride dates back to 1915, which is 13 years before the opening of Playland,” Astorino said. “The ride has a great history that will forever be documented on this new plaque. I encourage everyone to take a spin on the carousel and experience the joy it has brought to so many generations over the past century.”
