NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Police, while on patrol at about 10:30 pm on the night of July 29th, came across a subject congregating on the corner of North Avenue and Lockwood Avenue with other individuals. Police recognized Damond Sanford who officers had stopped on July 26th at about 7:00 pm in front of 17 May Street when they had observed Sanford along with other individuals standing beside an open bottle of Hennessy Cognac.
During an investigation into a possible city code violation (possession of an alcoholic beverage in a public place) Sanford indicated to police that he was not the owner of the aforementioned bottle and identified himself as another person. While checking on Sanford, he managed to elude police and enter one of the apartments of 17 May Street. Police were able to confirm he was not who he claimed to be.
On the night of July 29th, police again approached Sanford who denied that he had ever provided a name other than his own. Sanford repeatedly gave police officers a different name even after he was warned that providing police a false name was a crime. Sanford had no valid form of identification on his person.
Sanford’s true identity was determined and police found he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Pelham Manor. Sanford was arrested and charged with False Personation, a Class B Misdemeanor.
