NEW YORK, NY —The defending national champions have opened their pre-season camp for the 2015 soccer season at Monroe College with an overall, #1 ranking by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in their pre-season poll which was released on August 10. The women’s soccer team, which took home the title a season ago, is already on their way in the 2015 season.
Head Coach Jonathan Garber and his staff have already started practices and conditioning for the team. “We have a diverse group this season, led by a lot of incoming freshmen. The team is really starting to gel.”
The Mustangs , which finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 18-1-1. They return ten players from that campaign. Four of those ten started in the national championship game, including: Tiffany Martinez (Clifton, N.J.), Jordan Wainwright (Live Oak, Fla.), Gabriela Maidana (Porto Alegre, Brazil), Kathellen Sousa (Brazil) and Nicole Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.).
Monroe also welcomes in 15 newcomers this year. The pre-season schedule opens for the Mustangs on Thursday, August 13, when they face Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania.
The regular-season is slated to open on Monday, August 31, when they host Nassau Community College at 7:00 PM at City Park in New Rochelle. The Mustangs have won 24 consecutive home games there.
