NEW ROCHELLE, NY –The Downtown New Rochelle BID will launch a new program, BID 3rd Wednesdays: PopRocs @ Memorial Plaza, starting Wednesday, August 19th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Downtown Dog Days of Summer.
Initiated by the City of New Rochelle and the Downtown BID, and produced with PopRocs USA, 3rdWedensdays will introduce pop-up events in the downtown to build on the increasingly popular and growing roster of downtown activities such as the BID Farmers Market, Family Day Programs, Dance Concerts and Sidewalk Sales.
On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, through November, a pop-up art and shopper fest will take place on Memorial Plaza creating a fun evening where downtown residents and visitors can enjoy FREE music and entertainment, check out the local art scene, trendy goodies and fabulous eats! Festivities will continue at local restaurants.
BID Executive Director Ralph DiBart stated: “With downtown’s emergent destination restaurant scene, growing downtown residential community and exciting future development plans, we wanted to bring increased attention and people to downtown and weekday pop-up events is a great and fun way.”
PopRocsUSA’s Sandro Ore noted “At the BID 3rd Wednesdays, PopRocs will offer monthly programs that bring together everyone from Baby-boomers to Millenniums like me. Downtown New Rochelle has become the perfect place for us to gather and enjoy ourselves.”
Downtown Councilman Ivar Hyden remarked: “The City and the BID’s Pop-Up initiative will bring increased traffic and excitement to our city center and is another opportunity to support our arts community.”
Each month will focus on a theme. On the 19th, 3rd Wednesdays will celebrate New Rochelle Downtown’s Dog Days of Summer centering on the large pet population that now resides in this pet friendly downtown.
•Susan Nagib, a professional photographer will take FREE photo portraits of pets, courtesy of the BID.
•Maya Menon will showcase her artistic and fun pet portraits and accept commissions for original, personal portraits, artwork suitable for framing at Downtown’s Backstreet Gallery.
•Lupita’s Tattoos will showcase and discuss tattoos including of your pet and open their Memorial Plaza studio to the public.
•New Rochelle Artist Association members, Rita Rizzo (pastels), Alina Backmann (mixed media), and Jesse Sanchez (painting), will exhibit their artworks, many of which will have pet and animal themes.
•Jesse Sanchez, a Downtown artist will open his Memorial Plaza studio to the public.
•Barking Bones, a downtown store, will feature their fashionable pet couture and products
•Petland Discounts will have products to meet your pet needs and offer special “New Rochelle Dog Days of Summer’ discount coupons for their Downton store.
•The New Rochelle Humane Society will be there to discuss adopting and caring for pets.
The 19th will also feature the New Rochelle Arts Collective, a new arts organization reaching out to young artists in New Rochelle and surrounding communities.
•Mesh Print Studio which was introduced to great acclaim at the BID Farmers Market and is returning Downtown by popular request
•The Dog Days of Summer logo designed by Maya Menon and commissioned by the BID will be featured on clothing by Mesh Prints.
•Mateo Mattia-New York will feature their hand crafted leather goods
•Brutalhonestees will feature their feminist apparel
•Ben H. Kent’s Art Urbanism will premiere their Living Room Theater.
•The 99 Sublime Collective will liven up the evening with FREE live music.
This is a downtown evening not to be missed and it will continue afterwards with a PopRocsUSA 3rd Wednesday party at Recologie and specials at Alvin and Friends Restaurant and McKiernans Pub.
