NEW ROCHELLE, NY — There will be a community meeting Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the New Rochelle City Council Chambers at City Hall located at 515 North Avenue.

Information will be provided on the traffic and parking impact of the emergency relocation of the Daniel Webster Elementary School to the Holy Family School scheduled to begin on Wednesday September 9th.   All those interested are encouraged to attend.

City Manager Charles B. Strome will address the meeting and provide handouts with further details. Also on hand to answer questions will be representatives of the New Rochelle Police Department and Department of Public Works Traffic Bureau as well as City Council Member Barry Fertel and City Council Member Jared Rice, the representatives of the Council districts impacted by the relocation. Representatives of Iona College and the City School District of New Rochelle have been invited and are also expected to attend.

The purpose of this one-hour informational meeting is for City officials to explain how they plan to manage the expected increase in traffic and demand for parking in the area around Holy Family School over the next several months and answer questions from residents.

The City of New Rochelle will be releasing further details about their plans later this week.

  1. School Board and The City must be held accountable!

    School Board and The City must be held accountable, it’s our taxes!

    Time for us to see what we are going to face on the first day of school and into the next several months!

    Anyone who is upset should attend the next School Board Meeting and ask them why and how they let this happen. This could have been prevented the warnings were there.The Webster ceiling collapse was not unexpected, unforeseeable it was preventable. Thank god this didn’t happen during the school year when there were children, faculty and staff. What other schools are in danger from the poor and possibly criminal neglect over the years. Can we as citizens go after the past management and staff responsible for reporting and reviewing the conditions at all of the schools.

    As Bob Cox said in a prior article;

    Criminal Enterprise Masquerading as an Educational Institution – Part XVII

     Why hasn’t the district made public the full, un-redacted version of the Building Condition Survey report prepared in the Spring of 2014 by Mike Orifici of Capital Projects Consulting?

     Then ask why Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne rejected the recommendations delivered with this report, to move immediately to borrow $40 million for desperately needed repairs. What reason did he give for rejecting these recommendations?

     All of these problems are going to cost the taxpayers both now and in the future. Some of this expense could have been managed or even prevented. People, they are taking better care of their own homes and cars than they are our schools. Nothing will get done until WE The Taxpayers step up or someone gets killed by a falling ceiling. As this is an election year for all of our City Council and the Mayor, ask them why they haven’t stepped up considering school taxes are 65-70% of our tax dollars. Get out and ask the questions that need to be asked.

    Think of who you vote for in November!
