NEW YORK, NY — Junior Xavier King led the Iona College men’s cross country team to a first place finish at the 2015 Marist Season Opener at Vassar Farms. King finished first individually and led a quartet of Gaels who finished in the top six of the race.
King completed the 6,000-meter event in 18:53.1, topping Marist’s Spencer Johnson by more than 13 seconds. Following a second Red Fox harrier in third place, junior Ross Wightman (19:14.2), sophomore Brandon Clark (19:18.6) and junior Thomas McClellan (19:19.3) finished fourth through sixth. Iona’s fifth scorer was sophomore Kalen Sullivan (19:43.3) in 12th place.
The Gaels’ team score of 27 points was two points better than host Marist in second. Siena was third with 78 points while Fairfield was fourth with 103.
The Maroon & Gold hosts its annual Brother John “Paddy” Doyle Meet of Champions in two weeks on Saturday, Sep. 19.
