Volleyball Competes In First Day Of Black Knight Invite

NEW YORK, NY — The Iona College volleyball team dropped a pair of contests at the 2015 Black Knight Invitational. The Gaels fell in three sets to host Army West Point this morning and Cornell this afternoon.

In the opener, freshman OH Amanda Gannon led the Gaels with nine kills. She added five digs and a block. Junior MB Karly White added six kills and hit .308. Senior S Natalie Ziskin posted 11 assists and eight digs. Freshman libero Jessica Paolucci had 14 digs while freshman DS Kait Ferretti had a season-high 12 in the loss. Army won the match 25-21, 25-19, and 25-16.

In the night cap, it was rookie Claire Archibald’s near double-double (10 kills and nine digs) that paced the Gaels. Gannon was two kills shy of a double-double with eight kills and 10 digs. White posted seven kills while rookie Mia Bonsignore had five. Ferretti posted 19 assists and nine digs while Paolucci added eight digs. The Big Red took the contest 25-14, 25-20, and 26-24.

The Gaels complete action at West Point tomorrow vs. William & Mary.
