NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police arrested a White/Male who has been granted Youthful Offender Status following a report of a Burglary in Progress on Ellenton Avenue at about 6:40 AM on August 16th.
The Complainant stated that around 6:30 AM she was standing at her kitchen counter with her back towards the door when she saw a young man with light brown hair walked past her and open her kitchen cabinets. She said she began yelling “How the hell did you get in here?” and “Get the hell out”. The unknown White/Male turned around, walked past her again and proceeded to open another kitchen cabinet and search inside. The complaint again begin yelling “Get the hell out”.
She told police she advised to leave. The man walked towards the front door, unlocked it, and walked out. She continued after the man, following behind them for about five houses before turning back to call police. She advised the police that he was a young Male/White wearing gray pants with no shirt. She further advised that he ran North on Ellenton Avenue.
Police located a Male/White matching the description of the suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Explorer at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Ellenton Avenue. The suspect appeared to be buttoning up a multicolored shirt. The suspect was said to be approximately 20 years of age.
Police questioned the suspect, asking if the vehicle was his car. The suspect stated it was his parents car and stated that he lived “there”, pointing to the house in front of where the car was parked.
Suspect was asked why he was not wearing any shoes and he said they were inside the house. Suspect was asked if he had the keys to the vehicle and he said he did not.
Police asked the suspect to get out of the car and place his hands on the roof of the car. He complied. He appeared to have several cuts and abrasions on his knuckles on the right hand. When asked what happened to his hands, suspect said “nothing”.
Police asked why he was in New Rochelle he stated that he was here visiting friends that went Iona. When asked why he was sitting inside a Ford Explorer at the time he was found by police he put his head down and stop talking.
The suspect provided an identification card bearing the name of a person with a date of birth. Police later determined this was not the suspect’s name.
Police later determined that the vehicle suspect was found in was not his nor was the polo shirt he was wearing at the time of his arrest.
The owner of the home where the suspect claimed to live stated he did not have a son by that name and no one should of been inside the car. The homeowner identified the shirt the suspect was wearing as one of his shirts. Police found a black T-shirt left at the house on Ellenton Avenue.
Police observed that front windows at the house on Ellenton Avenue were tampered with. Complaint stated that she always locked the doors and windows but must have forgotten one because the one had a ripped screen and the windows were pushed open. It is believed that this is how the suspect gained access to the home. Another window to the far right what does of the screen was tampered with because the frame was bent.
The complaint on Ellenton Avenue was able to identify the suspect. He was placed under arrest and charged with Burglary – Second Degree, a Class C Felony.
