NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College men’s soccer team earned their second straight win Saturday night, slaying the Drexel Dragons, 1-0.
The Gaels struck in the opening half when No. 32, sophomore Brendan Reardon found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Marcos Nunez. The goal came in the 31st minute, and was Reardon’s second goal of the season.
The Maroon and Gold controlled the offensive zone in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Drexel 7-0, and earning the only corner attempt of the first half.
The second half was more balanced, however the Gaels still maintained a slight edge in all the important categories. Iona still outshot Drexel 11-4, and held a 3-2 edge in corners.
Junior goalkeeper Julian Petrello made two saves in the game, one coming in the 87th minute to preserve the win for Iona.
The Gael with agreeably the most tired legs maybe freshman Daniel Huerta; No. 15 played 89 minutes, and registered three shots on goal during his time.
The Gaels will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday, Sep. 16, at home against Deleware.
