NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball team fell to both Santa Clara and UTSA in three sets in non-conference action at the Texas Classic at Gregory Gym.
In the opener Friday morning, Santa Clara took the match 25-16, 25-16, 25-19. Rookie OH Claire Archibald led the Gaels with 12 kills and eight digs. She hit a season-best .524 while recording an ace and a block. Freshman Amanda Gannon had seven kills with three digs and a block. Senior Natalie Ziskin and freshman Kait Ferretti split time at setter and combined for 20 assists.
The Broncos were lead by 10 kills each by Nikki Hess and Jensen Cunningham.
In the nightcap, UTSA won 25-17, 25-9, 25-19. Archibald added 14 more kills and had three digs. Gannon posted four kills and three digs. Ferretti had nine assists and nine digs while Ziskin added nine and five.
The Gaels complete action in Texas tomorrow when they take on Colorado State.
