NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s cross country team opened its 2015 season on Saturday with a fifth-place finish in the Fordham Fiasco run from Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The team earned 143 total points in the 5000 meter race, ahead of sixth-place, Molloy College.
Monroe got a pair of top-ten finishes by Susan Ejore and Nokuthula Dlamini. Ejore placed fourth (19:36.23), while Dlamini came in ninth (20:30.73). The other three runners to score for Monroe were J’Renda Rivera (22:43.50) (36th), Jaime Cooper (24:10.62) and Princess Guwor (24:20.34 51).
After that, Dominique Swain crossed the line in 24:34.93 and Tashay Roberts was just behind her with a time of 24:48.51. Shavon Fields posted a time of 25:03.38 in her season debut. A pair of freshman, Ashley Stewart (25:53.43) and Olivia Allen (27:36.92) both posted good inaugural times. Finally, Aliyah Matta (28:24.25), Tamirah Thompson (28:38.89), Ernestine Conteh (28:49.86), Tonija Spencer (29:58.29) and Saleen Matta (32:46.86) all finished for Monroe.
The Monroe College cross country team returns to action on Saturday, September 19, when they compete in the Cairn College Invitational in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
