NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College softball head coach Melissa Inouye has announced the appointment of Matt Klampert to her staff as an assistant coach. Klampert most recently served as volunteer assistant coach at St. John’s University.
“I’m excited to have Matt join the coaching staff as he brings a new perspective to our softball program. He is energetic, positive, hardworking and eager to learn. Matt’s previous experience at St. Johns allowed him to learn and grow from several quality coaches who are well respected in the game,” says Coach Inouye.
“He brings championship experience as he was a part of a Big East Championship, NCAA Regional Appearance and member of the Big East Coaching Staff of the Year. He is a good fit for our coaching staff and he will help our program continue to compete for MAAC Championships and NCAA Postseason play.”
While a volunteer assistant coach with the Red Storm, Klampert assisted in various practice activities along with coordinating team operations management. The St. John’s coaching staff was named the 2015 Big East Coaching Staff of the Year, winning the conference regular season and conference championship titles, earning a trip to the Tucson, AZ regional.
Before his volunteer assistant coach stint with the Red Storm, Klampert was a student manager for St. John’s. He has also had experience coaching baseball with the Danbury North Side program, and aiding in various youth clinics/programs.
