NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College women’s cross country team competed at the 21st Annual Br. John “Paddy” Doyle / Iona College Meet of Champions early Saturday morning. The Gaels placed tenth, recording a score of 323 points. Sophomore Natalie Holder paced the Maroon and Gold, placing 27th overall with a time of 24:32.4.
Sophomore Kara McKenna came in four places behind Holder, crossing the finish line in 25:07.0. Finishing in places 67th, 68th, and 70th, were freshman Jillian Baldassarre (26:24.3), sophomore Danika Jensen (26:48.1), and freshman Shea Foley (28:07.2). Junior Kerri Sexton came in 72nd, finishing just above the 30 minute mark at 30:51.1.
Wisconsin won the events, tallying 26 points, led by individual winner, Shaelyn Sorensen. The freshman had the best time of 22:15.3, besting running up Sophia Meehan (22:25.6) of John Hopkins.
Wisconsin had five runners finish in the top 10, John Hopkins took two spots, Princeton had a duo finish in the top five, and Shawnee State had a representative in the top 10 with senior Sarah Biehl coming in eighth.
Iona’s next race is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2 at Lehigh University.
