NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s cross country placed seventh, out of 15 teams, at the Highlander Invite at Cairn University in Langhorne, Pennsylvania on Saturday. Mpho Makafone led the Mustangs with a third-place finish.
Makafone, a South African native, placed third overall with a time of 26:40 in the 8K run. The time was a new course record and season best for him, topping his time from the Fordham Fiasco by 1:17.
The next Monroe runner to finish was Kipkoech Collins. The Kenyan placed 18th with a time of 29:02. Not to be out done, Christian Patterson crossed the line in a personal-best time of 32:46 in his season debut. A couple more runners making their season debuts were Jaymes Dennison (33:27) and Rajay Hinds (34:29).
After that, Brian Rodriguez finished in a time of 36:04, Krishane Bowers in 36:06 and Kamar Harris in 42:38. Head Coach, Shirvon Greene commented on the race, “I’m very proud and happy with today’s performances. They were great all across the board. Lots of records fell today. It’s really beginning to come together for us. There’s still alot of work to be done but we are definitely on the right track.”
The Monroe College men’s cross country team returns to action on Sunday, September 20, when they race in the Queensboro Invitational in New York. The starting gun will go off at 10:00 AM.
