NEW ROCHELLE, NY — In order to provide customers with more frequent and timely information about their water usage, United Water Westchester is transitioning customers in eight communities from quarterly billing to monthly billing. Customers will receive their first monthly bill over the next several weeks. Monthly billing allows customers to budget more efficiently, monitor water consumption and detect leaks in their household plumbing sooner. Detecting leaks and reducing usage saves water and money.
Earlier this year the company transitioned customers in Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester to monthly billing. During this final phase, United Water will transition its customers in New Rochelle, Bronxville, Pelham, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Tuckahoe, Ardsley and Greenburgh. Customers impacted by the change have received postcard notifications. They should also check their bill for important messages.
Once the transition is complete, meters will be read monthly and the customer bill will reflect water usage for about 30 days. All other charges, currently billed quarterly, will be spread out over 12 monthly payments. The quarterly service fee will be pro-rated into a smaller monthly charge.
“The new monthly billing process will help customers manage their monthly budgets more efficiently,” said Chris Graziano, general manager of United Water Westchester. “Most households now pay for their electric, gas, cable and telephone services on a monthly basis. A monthly water bill aligns with other bill schedules and will make it easier for customers, especially those on a fixed income, to manage their monthly household finances.”
Payment Information
Customers enrolled in automatic bank draft payment/direct debit will have their account drafted monthly on the due date rather than every three months. These customers should review their account information and update the payment frequency to ensure timely payment processing.
Customers who pay through Western Union may wish to change to direct debit in order to eliminate the $3.99 convenience fee which Western Union charges for processing these payments.
eBilling and direct debit enable customers to pay their bill on line through their bank account at no charge. For information visit www.unitedwater.com/ebilling.
