NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s soccer team defeated Ocean County 11-0, in a women’s soccer match played at City Park in New Rochelle. The Mustangs have outscored their opponents 22-0 in the last two games.
Monroe got on the board in the fourth minute when Gabriela Braga chipped the ball over the goalie from the right side of the 18-yard box. The Mustangs led 1-0. Approximately four-and-a-half minutes later, Monroe doubled the score when Aline Delima, who was in the right side of the box, passed the ball to the middle for Maia Williams. Williams shoots for goal and the ball is deflected by the keeper, but still finds the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The score was 3-0 Mustangs when Williams returned the favor to Delima whom chipped the ball over the goalie from 30-yards out. Monroe scored again in the 28th minute. After a throw in along their own sideline, Monroe’s Bruna Tavarez dribbled along the baseline towards the net before passing to Ana Hess who scored. The Mustangs made the score 5-0 at 31:21 when Maribel Portillo got the ball at the top of the box, dribbled around a couple of players, nutmegged a third and beat the goalie. The score went to 6-0 when Sabrina Cardona finished a pass from Delima, who was at the left side of the box. Monroe added another goal when Gabriela Braga went down the left side and found Elysa Virella, who bounced the shot in off the crossbar. The final goal of the half Virella dribbles down the right side and scores off the far post. Monroe led 8-0 at the half.
The Mustangs added three more goals in the second half. At 68:17, Ui Nojima blasted a shot from the middle of the box which the goalie parryed. From there, Brianna McGrath cleaned up the mess and buried the ball in the back of the net, for a 9-0 lead. McGrath would score again five-and-ahalf minutes later when Virella played a through ball to McGrath who went on a run and scored. The final goal came from Nojima at 86:42.
The Monroe College women’s soccer team returns to the pitch on Tuesday, September 29, when they host ASA. The kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
