Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten with 5-0 Win over CCRI

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 blanking of the Community College of Rhode Island in a soccer game played at City Park in New Rochelle on Saturday.  The team is now 9-0-1 on the season.

The Mustangs, whom have outscored their opponents, 23-1, in their last four games, scored all five goals in the first half.  In the 15th minute, Jorge Paez found Jaime Hinchliffe for the game’s first goal.  Two-and-a-half minutes later Evan Finnegan scored on a nifty angle to make the score 2-0 for Monroe.  For the third goal, Hinchliffe returned to favor to Paez at 23:34.  Gonzalvo Rodriguez found Jordan Kinoshi, who scored inside the far post, to make the score 4-0 for Monroe.  The final goal came 44:46 when Finnegan found Hinchliffe for his second goal of the match.  The Mustangs led 5-0 at the half.

Monroe sent in reinforcements in the second half and despite not scoring, had several chances.  In the end, CCRI was shutout as Monroe earned the 5-0 win.  Robert Ekroll and Fabio Hernandez combined on the clean sheet.  The Mustangs outshot CCRI 16-0 and were ahead, 8-0 on corner kicks.

The Monroe College men’ soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 5, when they host Essex in the first half of a doubleheader.  The opening kick is slated for 5:00 PM.
