NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The No. 8 Iona College men’s cross country team finished first overall in the gold race of the 2015 Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. Sophomore Chartt Miller led a quintet of Gael scorers with a third place finish in the 8k event.
Miller finished with a time of 23:55.82 and was just over a half second behind second place Edwin Kibichiy from Louisville. Michigan senior Mason Ferlic was the event winner in 23:51.52. Junior Kieran Clements was seventh, crossing in 24:02.12. Sophomore Johannes Motschmann finished 11th (24:14.81) while sophomore Gilbert Kirui was 14th (24:20.26) and senior Mike O’Dowd was 16th (24:20.92) to earn the Gaels a team score of 51.
Iona topped No. 10 Michigan by 16 points. Louisville (RV) and No. 13 Ole Miss tied for third with 82 points. Rounding out the top 10 were Illinois, No. 28 Eastern Kentucky, No. 4 Wisconsin, Penn State (RV), Grand Valley State and Southern Indiana.
Up next for the Gaels is the 2015 New York Metropolitan Championships on Friday (Oct. 9) and the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in two weeks (Oct. 16).
