NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College golf team returned to North American style golf at the Monmouth Hawk Invitational Friday afternoon. The Gaels placed second of four competing teams, shooting 309 (+21) as a team, 12 shots greater than the Invite winner Fairleigh Dickinson.
Sophomore Kevin Kramarski led the Gaels finishing tied for fourth, shooting a 75 (+3). The Palmyra, NJ used the par fours to his advantage, shooting them collectively at -1, best among all golfers competing.
Fairleigh Dickinson’s Tom Punnett was the individual winner with a score of 73 (+1). Host Monmouth’s Noah Firestone and FDU’s Santaigo Llatos each tied for second shooting a 74 (+2).
Iona freshmen Devin Delisle (+4) and Paolo Matti (+6) both finished inside the top 10, shooting 76 and 78 respectively. Both men tied for the most pars in their rounds with 13 apiece.
The Maroon & Gold’s next outing is the Connecticut Cup, beginning on Monday, Oct. 12 in Ellington, CT at the Ellington Ridge Country Club.
