NEW YORK, NY — Con Edison has been named winner of the 2015 ReliabilityOne™ Award for Outstanding System-Wide Reliability for the eighth year in a row.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, ReliabilityOne™ Awards are given annually to the utilities that have achieved outstanding reliability performance and have excelled in delivering the most reliable electric service to customers.

The company also won the Regional ReliabilityOne™ Award for the Northeast region.

Con Edison’s Electric Operations General Manager Lisa Primeggia also was recognized with a special award for her exemplary service and unwavering focus contributing to Con Edison’s extraordinary reliability record.

“Our most important goal remains meeting the energy requirements of New Yorkers safely and reliably,” said Robert Schimmenti, Con Edison senior vice president, Electric Operations. “As in years past, receiving this award is a tribute to the Con Edison men and women who deliver electricity to the world’s greatest city, as well as to nearby Westchester County. I am grateful and proud to accept this award on their behalf.”

Con Edison is in the third of its four-year $1 billion storm hardening program in the wake of 2012’s Superstorm Sandy. More than 65,000 outages have been avoided as a result of investments made since the program began.

All utilities operating electric delivery networks in North America are eligible for consideration for the ReliabilityOneTM Award. There are a total of six regional awards including Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Plains, West, and Southeast. The selection of provisional recipients is based primarily on system reliability statistics that measure frequency and duration of customer outages. After provisional recipients are selected, each company undergoes an on-site certification process that provides an independent review and confirmation of the policies, processes, and systems used to collect, analyze and report a company’s reliability results.

“While much of the focus in the utility industry is on the role technology plays in enhancing reliability and service, people make the real difference in this industry,” said Jeff Lewis, PA Consulting Group’s ReliabilityOne™ program director. “The dedication and sacrifice by the people who comprise the utility industry is really at the core of our culture and Con Edison is an outstanding example of how public service is the heart and soul of the company.”
