Margaret Tanner Obituary

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Peggy Tanner, 86, longtime resident of New Rochelle passed away peacefully at her home in Danbury, CT on October 26, 2015.

Born in Bronx, NY on September 10, 1929 to Irish immigrants, Denis and Minnie (Daly) Hegarty, she moved back to Ireland as a young girl where she grew up helping to run the family business, moved on to nursing school in England, before returning to the United States.

She met and married Hank Tanner in 1959 and they settled in New Rochelle, NY. Peg always liked to quote Charles Schultz in saying “Happiness is Having Your Own Hometown” which is exactly how she felt about New Rochelle.

Peggy retired from New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center in 1992 where she worked as a registered nurse for 16 years. She also served on the Parks and Landscape committee, was an active member of the chamber of commerce for many years, and enjoyed helping out local politicians.

Mrs. Tanner is survived by her two children, James Tanner and his wife, Karen of Orlando, FL and Denise Fontenelli and her husband, Robert of Danbury, CT. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Alison, Andrew, Jacob, Vincent and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, 8 Robinson Avenue, Danbury. Interment will be private.

Friends will be received on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at Jowdy Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury.
