NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College women’s soccer team fell to Manhattan in the final game of the 2015 season, 5-1.  Senior Kim Marra scored Iona’s goal in her final game suiting up for the Gaels.

The Jaspers jumped out to a quick two goal lead in the opening 20 minutes with scores from senior Emily Ude and junior Jenny Bitzer.  The upperclassmen duo both scored via header opportunities, Ude’s coming off a 20-yard cross, and Bitzer’s via a corner kick.  Manhattan would take the two goal lead into the half.

Marra’s third goal of the season, and second in the past two weeks, came in the 70th minute on a stinger of a free kick from the top of the box.  The defenseman’s goal was the last shot Iona would muster on goal for the game.

Iona couldn’t keep themselves within striking distance for very long; Manhattan’s Erica Modena scored her eleventh of the season at 75:20 with a blast from the left side that grazed the crossbar on its way past the goal line.  Just four minutes later, freshman Caroline Taylor would extend the Jaspers lead to three.

Manhattan’s last goal came in the final minute of the game via the foot of junior Tara Teal.

Senior Iona goalkeeper Taylor Rice made 15 saves in net, and orchestrated the Iona defense in its defending of six Jasper corner kick chances.

To go along with Marra’s two shots, sophomores Charlotte Stuart and Julia Campagna each contributed one shot on goal.
