NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s cross country team placed second overall in the Northeast Invitational hosted by CCRI from Warwick, Rhode Island, on Saturday. Nokuthula Dlamini was the overall winner of the race.
Dlamini, a South African, ran a blistering time of 18:45.64, en route to becoming the Northeast Invitational Champion. Her time was a new course record and was 1:20 faster than the previous course best.
Two other Mustangs runners finished in the top-ten as Jrenda Rivera finished seventh (21:29.42), while Tashay Roberts came in tenth (22:11.82). The final three runners all crossed the line in the top-20 with Shavon Fields coming in 13th (22:39.17), Dominque Swain placing 15th (23:19.38) and Princess Guwor finishing 19th (24:05.05).
Head Coach Shirvon Greene reflected on the day, “Today was the final race before nationals and the ladies went out and performed very well. This was an opportunity to sharpen some skills we’ve been working on in practice and we are definitely on the right track.”
