NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s basketball team fell to Roxbury Community College, 72-58, in a game played in Roxbury, Massachusetts on Saturday. Freshman Samantha Hines led all scorers with 24 points.
As usual this season, the Mustangs got off to a hot start. They led 22-17 after the first quarter. In fact, Monroe jumped out to an 8-2 lead on a pair of baskets from Camilla Kilinc and buckets from Hines and Destini Green. The lead grew to double-digits when a Hines layup at 4:36 made the score 15-4 for the Mustangs. Roxbury closed out the quarter by cutting the deficit to five points.
Roxbury took the lead with 1:07 to go in the second quarter and never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the game.and went on to win 72-58. Monroe dropped to 0-3 with the defeat. Hines earned a double-double as she grabbed 11 rebounds to complement her 24-point output. She shot 10-17 in the game. Kilinc chipped in with ten, while Gabrielle Jubinville had eight points and 14 rebounds.
