NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Sparkled by a combined 15 individual wins and four top relay times, the Iona College Men’s and Women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a pair of victories over new Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Monmouth University. The meet held at the Iona College Hynes Athletic Center saw the Maroon & Gold women record a 123-53 win, and men notch a 118-66 victory.
The win raises the Men’s season record to 4-1 and the women move to 4-3 with their W.
The women’s meet saw eight Gaels take races including Natalie Bowman (200-Free), Maria DiBella (500-Free); Alexandra DiBiase (100-Free) Melissa Dorsch (50-Free); Elizabeth Kaczmarek (100-Fly and IM); Demetra Laurent (1000-Free) MaryEllen Mangione (100-Breast) and Leigh Musselman (100-Back).
The men’s meet saw six men touch the wall first including Keegan Boisson-Yates (200-Free); Christian Foti (500-Free); Scott Martin (1000-Free); Matthew Rothman (50-Free); Christopher Vadala (100-Breast) and Jude Zamora (100-Free).
The meet was highlighted by a pair of Iona pool and school records set in the NCAA’s newest event, the 100-yard Individual Medley.
The 100-IM just introduced in International competition has been approved as an optional event in NCAA meets for the 201515-16 season. At the Hynes pool Friday, Nov. 13, sophomore Kaczmarek out touched Mangione and eighth other student-athletes for the new pool and team record of 1:01.70.
The men’s race saw Monmouth ace Sam Lynch touch first at 54.89 for a pool mark, ahead of Iona’s Collin Purrman’s new school record of 55.91.
The Gaels get right back in the water on Saturday as they visit MAAC rival, Manhattan College. The 2:00pm meet will be held at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School.
