PELHAM, NY — On Saturday, December 5th 2015, the Civil Air Patrol cadets from Westchester Cadet Squadron 1 and the Pelham Funeral Home will work together to solicit donations for Wreaths Across America™. There will be a table in front of DeCicco’s supermarket in Pelham beginning at 2 pm on Saturday, December 5th.
Wreaths Across America has been honoring fallen veterans since 1992 by placing wreaths on the graves of fallen veterans on a specific Saturday in December.
Donations for Wreaths Across America will be solicited during Pelham’s Candy Cane Lane event and the Pelham Town Tree Lighting, which will take place on Saturday, December 5th from 2:30 to 5 pm. These are all free events, open to all, including residents of neighboring towns.
The Civil Air Patrol cadets will dedicate the donated wreaths during a special ceremony at St. Paul’s Church in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. The community is invited to attend. Similar events will take place simultaneously at over 700 locations in all 50 states. More than 100,000 volunteers nationwide will take part in Wreaths Across America™ ceremonies.
Clive Anderson, owner of the Pelham Funeral Home, says, “It is our privilege to support the Civil Air Patrol cadets as they honor fallen veterans during the holidays. It is important to remember Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to support their families during this time of year.”
Kathy Torres, First Lieutenant Commander of Westchester Cadet Squadron 1, says, “This marks the third year that our cadets will participate in Wreaths Across America, a program that teaches our cadets to honor the sacrifices made by our veterans.”
