NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Geraldine Zelson “Gerry” was born on October 2, 1924 in Philadelphia and died peacefully at her home in New Rochelle, NY on November 8, 2015. Her husband of 69 years, Joseph Zelson, and their two children, Steve Zelson, his wife Shelley Zelson, his children Richard, Lindsay, and Hilary and her husband Andrew Geller, and their other child Cindy Zelson and her son, Zach Brody, survive her.
Gerry grew up in Philadelphia and met her long time husband while they were in junior high school. She was the consummate Mom and lovingly raised her family in Claymont, DE. When her children were older, she returned to work at the JCC of Wilmington, DE, where she served as the front desk receptionist for 17 years. It was the perfect position because of her warm, loving personality and amazing memory. She also started her own catering business, “The Personal Touch,” where her creativity and zest for life were evident in every dish she prepared. She generously and selflessly gave of her time to all who knew her. She also was actively involved with Hadassah.
During her retirement, Gerry loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her sharp wit, strength and kindness were larger than life. She was an avid reader and was passionate about Democratic politics. She was loved by all who knew her and will be so deeply missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Parkinson’s Foundation, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Deborah Hospital Foundation.
