NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Behind the performance of All-Tournament Team selection Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) the College of New Rochelle Womens Basketball team picked up an 83-67 win over Medgar Evers College in the consolation game of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Basketball Tournament on Sunday. The senior had a double-double as she poured in 20 points and brought down 13 boards to lead the Blue Angels to their third win of the season (3-6). Medgar Evers remains winless at 0-6 on the season.
Sophomore Hannah Cambel (Houston, TX) had another big night pouring in a game-high 24 points. Freshmen Amirror Dixon (New Rochelle, NY) added 14 points and five steals, while senior JaNasha King (Jersey City, NJ) dished out seven assists.
As a team, the Blue Angels connected on a season-high 53% of their shots, while holding the Cougars to 36%. Medgar Evers held the narrowest of lead on the boards 39-38, while making one more turnover than CNR (18-17).
After Medgar Evers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Cambel answered with one of her six three pointers. The Blue Angels would lead most of the quarter before falling behind 20-19 late. After a bucket by freshmen Cynthia Almonte (Bronx, NY), Dixon connected on a three to but CNR up 24-20 after one quarter. From there on, Medgar Evers never got any closer.
CNR will return to action on December 4th when they host Purchase College at 7pm.
