NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s basketball team celebrated Thanksgiving weekend by picking up a pair of wins at the Hagerstown Invitational in Hagerstown, Maryland. On Friday, the team defeated the hosts, Hagerstown CC, 81-67 and on the next day, prevailed over Alleghany College, 68-59.
Against Hagerstown, Will Tavares was the story, coming off the bench and returning from injury, the Fordham University commit, pumped in a game-high 22 points on 8-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line. Lawahn Lewis scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Lukas Landgren had 16 points on 4-8 shooting. The Mustangs led by as many as 22 points in this game and shot 14-30 from behind the three-point line.
In a 68-59 win over Alleghany, Tavares once again led all scorers with 19 points. He shot 8-13 and pulled down nine rebounds. Shackquille Scott finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Lewis reached double figures with ten points.
The two wins lifted the team’s record to 8-3 overall. They have won four-in-a-row. The Monroe College men’s basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, December 1, when they host Gateway Community College at 8:00 PM.
