NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle firefighters extracted a man from his vehicle after the car he was driving rolled over and pinned him inside.
Witnesses told Talk of the Sound that an elderly driver went into diabetic shock while driving northbound on North Avenue. The man passed out at the wheel. drove through the intersection at Eastchester Road, before striking an oncoming vehicle stopped at a red light. With the driver unconscious, the vehicle rolled up on the oncoming vehicle before flipping over.
The driver of the vehicle stopped at the red light suffered a minor foot injury and later walked home to a nearby apartment where she resides.
The elderly man was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
One witness said paramedics took a blood glucose reading of 34 mg/dL for the elderly man. The normal blood glucose level for non-diabetics, should be between 70 to 100 mg/dL. The mean normal blood glucose level in humans is about 100 mg/dL.
