PELHAM, NY — On Wednesday, December 9th at 7:30 p.m., two days in advance of its nationwide theatrical debut, The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) will show an advance screening of the new film The Big Short followed by a discussion and Q&A with the film’s director Adam McKay. The film, based on the 2010 book of the same name by best-selling author Michael Lewis (Liar’s Poker, Flash Boys, Moneyball), recounts the financial crisis of 2007 through 2010 by the build-up of the housing and credit bubble. Starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt, The Big Short is already generating critical acclaim and Oscar-buzz.
After the screening, TPH critic-in-residence Marshall Fine will lead a post-film discussion and Q&A with the film’s director, Adam McKay. McKay, a screenwriter, director, comedian, and actor, served as head writer for the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live for two seasons. He has a comedy partnership with Will Ferrell, with whom he co-wrote the films Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Step Brothers. McKay directed all three films as well. Ferrell and McKay also founded their comedy website Funny or Die through their production company Gary Sanchez Productions and have produced films and television series together.
Tickets to the advance screening of The Big Short are $12/general admission, $6/members, $10/students and seniors and are available at www.thepicturehouse.org or at the box office, 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham, NY 10803.
