ALBANY, NY — The Thruway Authority today announced various maintenance activities on I-95 (New England Thruway) set to begin this Tuesday, Dec. 15.
Beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m., the southbound exit 16 (North Ave/Cedar Street) on-ramp will be closed for the duration of the winter season to accommodate repairs. Ongoing bridge and pavement maintenance in the vicinity requires this closure due to the lack of an acceleration lane for entering traffic. A short detour, less than a mile away via Memorial Highway, will be in place for all traffic seeking to enter I-95 southbound.
Additionally, the southbound travel lanes at exit 16 (North Ave/Cedar Street) will be shifted into a new configuration as a part of the rehabilitation of the Cedar Street and Cross County bridges. This work is a part of the $58.7 million New England Thruway concrete pavement restoration project. This work is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 11 p.m. until Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 5 a.m. Motorists can expect overnight lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages during this scheduled work.
Lastly, the northbound travel lanes between exits 18A (Fenimore Road) and 18B (Mamaroneck Ave) will be shifted back into their permanent configuration. This work is also part of the $58.7 million New England Thruway concrete pavement restoration project and is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 11 p.m. until Thursday, Dec. 17 at 5 a.m. Previously, these lanes had been shifted to accommodate the rehabilitation work on the Fenimore Road and Mamaroneck Ave bridges. Motorists can expect overnight lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages during this scheduled work.
In case of inclement weather, the work may be postponed.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 530 AM will advise motorists of the closure.
The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience during this scheduled work.
