NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) was on a mission Tuesday night. The women’s basketball forward poured in a season-high 33 points and ripped down 21 boards to lead the College of New Rochelle to a come-from-behind, fourth quarter win over Yeshiva University – 60-53. The non-conference win pushed CNR to 5-7 overall on the year while Yeshiva falls to 0-7.
Early on, things weren’t looking good for CNR. The Blue Angels trailed most of the game and fell down by 13 mid-way through the 3rd period.
Trailing after the 3rd quarter 44-39 and down by as many as nine in the final frame, CNR put the clamp on Yeshiva’s offense, holding them to just five points in the final six minutes. In the same period, CNR which had only shot 5-for-14 from the chairty stripe prior, went 9-for-14 from the line down the stretch. That helped them climb even and eventually take the lead.
The sophmore duo of Chelsea Thomas (Bronx, NY) and Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY) contributed to the win, as Thomas added eight points while Harrison pulled down eight board,
CNR will be back on its home court Thursday when it hosts Berkeley College (NY) in a big HVIAC matchup. Game time is 7pm.
