NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s basketball team fell to 0-4 at home this season, as they fell to Orange County College, 73-65, in a game played at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Thursday. Samantha Hines posted career highs in points (29) and rebounds (20), while Gabrielle Jubinville finished with ten and ten. It was the seventh double-double of the season for Hines and the third for Jubinville.
Monroe trailed 13-11 halfway through the first quarter. Venesa Jordan buried a three-point to put the Mustangs up, 14-13. From there Jubinville and Camilla Kilinc added buckets and Monroe was ahead 18-13 with 2:44 left. The Broncos came back to lead 22-21 after the first quarter.
Jordan opened the second quarter with a trifecta and Monroe led again, 24-22. A steal and layup by Breanna Dennis with 1:00 left put the Mustangs ahead, 35-33. It was the last time Monroe held the advantage in the quarter. The Mustangs trailed at the half, 36-35.
Monroe trailed into the third quarter until a Kilinc three at 6:45 evened the score at 39-all. The Mustang fell behind as much as seven point, but Kilinc scored the final seven points of the quarter for Monroe as they trailed 49-47 after three.
Orange County pulled ahead later in the fourth. Monroe had two different opportunities to even the score down the stretch, but they couldn’t get over the hill. The Broncos won, 73-65.
Hines had 13 offensive rebounds in the game, while Kilinc finished with a dozen points and a pair of three-pointers. She led Monroe with four steals. Monroe is now 3-9 on the season. The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, December 12 when they travel to Franklin, Massachusetts to face Dean College. The start time is slated for 1:00 PM.
