NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) poured in a game-high 21 points and pulled down 12 boards, but it wasn’t enough as Merchant Marine’s balanced attack resulted in a 60-40 setback for the College of New Rochelle in non-conference women’s basketball action Wednesday night. All 10 players who saw time found their way into the scoring column for the Mariners, who climb to 5-4 overall on the season. CNR falls to 6-8.
Brandon and sophomore Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY) combined for the first six points to push the Blue Angels out the the early 6-0 lead. Just two minutes later, the Mariners tied the game on a jump shot by Tichina Carmon. Merchant Marine took the lead moments later and never surrendered the lead the rest of the way.
A big difference in the game was shooting %, as Merchant Marine held a 40-29 advantage. The Mariners dominated on the boards also, grabbing 40 boards to CNR’s 22.
Outside of Brandon’s performance, freshmen Amirror Dixon (New Rochelle, NY) added seven points, while Harrison swatted away two shots.
CNR will go into the holiday break and not resume action until January 6th, when they host Western Connecticut State.
