NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s basketball team moved its season record to 11-4 on the season by splitting a pair of games over the weekend. The Mustangs defeated Chesapeake, 91-68 and fell to Baltimore City, 54-53.
Against Chesapeake, four Mustangs finished in double-figures, led by a season-high 21 points from Marcellas Anderson. The forward shot 7-20 in the game and made all four three-point attempts. Lukas Landgren recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Taquan Givens finished with 15 points and Will Tavares totaled 11.
The game was close in the first half as Monroe led 42-40 at the break. They turned it on in the second 20 minutes, pulling away on a Landgren trifecta barely three minutes into the half. A Landgren foul shot at 2:07 gave the Mustangs their largest lead, 28 points (89-61). They went on to win, 91-68.
The next day they fell to Baltimore City, 54-53. Shackquiel Scott posted a double-double in the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Givens finished with 11 points and Anderson added ten. Monroe erased a nine-point, second half deficit, three different times in the second half and even took a one-point lead when Hampus Ahlin sunk a free throw with 0:48 left to make the score 51-50. Baltimore City came back to win the game, 54-53.
The Monroe College men’s basketball team returns to action on Monday, December 28, when they host the Monroe Holiday Classic. The Mustangs open play on Monday against Tennessee Prep at 4:00 PM.
