PELHAM, NY — On Thursday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m. The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH), in conjunction with Pelham Memorial High School will show the important documentary, Watchers of the Sky followed by a discussion and Q&A with one of the film’s executive producer and director of outreach, Elisabeth Bohart.
Watchers of the Sky interweaves four stories of remarkable courage, compassion, and determination, while setting out to uncover the forgotten life of Raphael Lemkin – the man who created the word “genocide,” and believed the law could protect the world from mass atrocities. Inspired by Samantha Power’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, A Problem From Hell, Watchers of the Sky takes the viewer on a provocative journey from Nuremberg to The Hague, from Bosnia to Darfur, from criminality to justice, and from apathy to action.
The film is being shown as the culminating event of Pelham Memorial High School’s Human Rights Day which is being organized by PMHS faculty member Meghan Rice. In addition to the screening and discussion, participating students’ presentations will be on-display in the Picture House’s lobby before and after the film. The presentations will connect well to the film, focusing on human rights issues and how they as individuals can respond with compassion and action.
