NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s basketball team fell to Harcum College, 90-80 in a game played in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on Saturday. Will Tavares scored a game-best 23 points.
The Mustangs go off to a slow start against Harcum, as the Bears built a nine-point cushion in the first seven minutes of action. However, Monroe nearly erased the entire deficit as they used 1:17 of game time to go on an 8-0 run and make the score 21-20 with 11:51 left. Ran Tut opened the scoring with a three. Marcellas Anderson followed with a basket, and Tavares capped the run with another trifecta. Harcum dominated the rest of the half and led at the break, 53-43.
Three minutes into the second half saw Monroe get the deficit into single digits as Lawahn Lewis found a cutting Tavares for a layup to make the score 59-51, Bears. Inside of eight minute. Taquan Givens made a foul shot to pull the Mustangs within five, 72-67, but they got no closer as Harcum went on to win, 90-80.
Tavares shot 8-15 and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds in the game. Tut finished with 22 points and shot 7-8. Givens scored nine before fouling out, and Shackquiel Scott scored eight.
The Monroe College men’s basketball team returns to action on Monday, January 18, when they face Frederick Community College in Maryland. The opening tip is slated for 2:00 PM.
