Iona S&D Drops Meet To Fordham

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Both the Iona College men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs fell to the Fordham Rams late Friday afternoon.  Freshman Jude Zamora was the lone winner for Iona, touching the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.47.

Zamora also raced in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle, placing fifth and sixth in each of those events respectively.

Also on the men’s side, sophomore Christian Foti and junior Bryan Veals each set personal events in their respective events.  Foti placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 9:56.66.  Veals swam in the 100-yard breaststroke and clocked in a 1:04.05.

As a team, the men were bested by the Rams, 182-105.

For the Iona women, despite not winning and event, numerous swimmers set new personal bests.

Senior MaryEllen Mangione swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.08, placing her fourth in the race.  Sophomore Elizabeth Kaczmarek showed massive improvement in the 100-breast, improving her personal best time by over five percent with a mark of 1:13.77.

Fordham took down Iona as a team, 181-88.

The Maroon & Gold will host their senior day on Saturday, Jan 30, when the Fairfield Stags make a trip to the Hynes Center Pool.
