NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Women’s Basketball team remained unbeaten in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a convincing 85-46 win over Vaughn College Tuesday night. CNR blew open a narrow 36-30 halftime lead by outscoring Vaughn by 20 points in the third quarter. CNR is now 3-0 in the league and 7-11 overall, while the Warriors fall to 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.
CNR played the whole first half without their leading scorer in senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ). However, the Blue Angels managed to maintain the lead thanks to 15 first half points by sophomore Hannah Cambel (Houston, TX) who returned to action after recovering from an injury. Cambel nailed five three-pointers to pace CNR.
Cambel would add 10 more points in the second half to lead CNR with 25 on the night. Brandon poured in 22 points in just one half of play. Sophomore Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY) added 10 points to round out double-digit scoring for the visitors. She also led the team in boards with 14, while Brandon snagged 12 for her 12th double-double of the season.
CNR will host Pratt Institute on Saturday at 1:00pm in another HVIAC contest. Brandon will be honored at the game for surpassing the 1,000 point mark earlier this season.
