Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough as Monroe Women’s Basketball Falls to Montgomery, 64-50

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A strong fourth quarter for the Monroe women’s basketball team wasn’t enough to overcome a slow start as the Mustangs fell to Montgomery College, 64-50.  The team is now 6-16 on the season.

Monroe was outscored 24-6 in the first quarter as Gabrielle Jubinville accounted for the first four points and Fatoumata Coulibaly scored the final two points.  Monroe nearly doubled their output in the second quarter by scoring 11 points.  They trailed at the half, 42-17.

The third quarter saw Monroe fight back and even the score in that quarter, 13-13.  They trailed 55-30 after three.  The foul quarter saw them mount a comeback.

The Mustangs outscored Montgomery, 20-9 in the fourth.  Jubinville scored the first points of the quarter.  Destini Green scored the next five points.  The 8-0 run got Monroe within 18.  Monroe also scored the final seven points in the game on five from Jubinville and a basket from Camilla Kilinc.

The Monroe College women’s basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, February 2, when they face ASA College on the road in Brooklyn.
