NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle YMCA closed its pool doors for renovations in December 2014. At that time the Y launched it’s Be A Lifesaver Capital Campaign to raise money to keep the Y open for the community. Through a series of fundraisers, and help from the local elected officials, the YMCA was able to secure a 1 million dollar grant from the New York State Dormitory Authority. On Tuesday, the pool was filled with water for the first time in over a year. Thanks to the help of the New Rochelle Fire Department the 130,000 gallon pool was filled in only five hours. This was a huge help in fast tracking the re-opening of the pool. With only a few steps left we hope to re-open our doors within the month and begin our swim lessons, swim team, aquacise, and other great aquatic programs. We couldn’t have made it to these final stages without the support of our members, staff, and the community. Thanks for being a lifesaver!
