PELHAM, NY — Learn a new craft and create beautiful usable objects in hands-on workshops this winter at the Pelham Art Center. The Workshop Series offers a choice of tempting crafts and projects. The one-session workshops are perfect for busy people who can’t commit to a semester but want to create something special.
Explore pattern, simple repeat designs, or your own imagery as you design and print a one-of-a-kind cotton tote bag in Intro to Printmaking, February 25th. In Winter Gardens workshop, February 27th, create and learn to care for a live terrarium, using leafy ferns and green plants.
The fascinating fiber art technique of wet felting awaits you in Intro to Wet Felting, March 2nd. Use your hands, hot water, soap, and simple tools to transform delicate wool fiber into strong cloth with rich, beautiful texture. One of the most ancient methods of creating cloth, wet felting has been embraced by contemporary artists, designers, makers, and crafters.
In teen workshops, students will learn tricks to DIY, up-cycle and hack at home, including Do It Yourself: Book Clutch, March 3rd; and Do It Yourself: Bohemian Chic Accessories, March 17th.
Create a unique keepsake in Reverse Glass Painting (March 5th). Students will learn how to create a composition beginning with the tiniest detail and working out to the background, while exploring design and pattern. In Printmaking– Relief Etching, March 26th, students will each create a small limited edition of their own striking, unique prints.
