NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s track and field team put up a strong effort at the Molloy Invitational from Staten Island, New York, on Friday. Several top performances were turned in by the Mustangs.
Leading the way with a first-place finish in a pair of events was sophomore thrower, Ksenia Safanova., who won both the shot put and weight throw. She tossed the ball 13.30 meters, setting a new school record in the process. Her winning lob in the weight throw went 15.67 meters. Both distances qualified her for nationals.
Another podium finish for Monroe came in the 60 meter dash as Shaian Vandenburg placed third with a time ov 7.90. Ernestine Conteh was 9th (8.13) in this, but more impressively, placed second in the 200 with a timeof 26.40.
The Monroe College women’s track and field team returns to action on Saturday, February 20, when they compete at the Millrose Games in New York.
