NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle YMCA is happy to announce that the pool is open for the first time since November 2014. The Y was forced to close their pool in order to make repairs to their roof and infrastructure. Since that time the members, staff and community did everything in their power to save the Y. It was very exciting when the pool reopened at noon on March 9, 2016. For the first few days the pool will be available for lap swimming, family swimming and open recreation swims for Y members of all ages. Then beginning on Monday, March 14, 2016, a full schedule for the spring will begin.
Funding for the $1.4 million dollar project was secured after launching the Be a Lifesaver Capital Campaign. Spearheaded by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and Assemblyman Steve Otis the Y received a $1,000,000 grant from the Dormitory Authority of New York. The project was also made possible through the generous gifts of many private donors in the community. This funding allowed the Y to address all of their repair needs. In addition to the needed repairs they also added windows making the pool much brighter. This now allows the Y to continue what they have been doing well for so many years; providing a pool which offers the opportunity for fitness, rehabilitation, recreation, and for people of all ages to learn to swim. Their Day Campers will also be happy, as this summer they will be able to jump into the pool and cool off on a hot day.
Stop by and see for yourself. The staff at the Y would love to show you the new pool.
