NEW ROCHELLE, NY –Isaac E. Young Middle School hosts social commentator, political activist, and author Kevin Powell this Thursday, March 24 from 8:15am-2:15pm. Powell’s book, The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy’s Journey into Manhood, explores how overcoming adversity helps shape our ability to become resilient and responsible adults.
Students in grades 7-8 have been preparing for Powell’s visit for several weeks with classroom lessons, lunchtime reading groups, and after-school book clubs.
This important clinically-driven project has been led by school psychologists Dr. Susan Owens-Billlups and Karina Villalona, and school social workers Angélica Guel and Charise Littlejohn.
