NEW ROCHELLE, NY –The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing teams hosted Manhattan and Sacred Heart Friday morning, March 25 at Glen Island Park.
The first race of the day was the Women’s Varsity Eight. The Maroon and Gold saw sophomore coxswain Madison Kirch, sophomores Rachel Landock, Serena Yanitelli, juniors Brittany Quirino and Emily Serrano, and freshmen Danielle Varley, Reise Manchester, Willow Held-Pistone, and Alexandra Arluna finished the 2000 meter race at 7:51.3 behind, finishing second behind Sacred Heart A. Due to a scratch by Manhattan in the Varsity Four, the Gaels finished their day competing against two of their Varsity pairs.
On the men’s side, the first race saw Iona’s Novice Eight edge out Manhattan, finishing with a time of 07:22.1. The all-freshman boat was led by coxswain Tyler Reynolds, along with Logan Pietroforte, Patrick Drummond, Barry James, Edward Gonzalez, Nicholas Negron, Kevin Menna, Christian Cartensen, and John Hidalgo.
The men’s Varsity Four raced alongside the Varsity 8, finishing with a time of 7:42.7. The squad featured coxswain Bianca Mesqueue, alongside the quartet of graduate senior Peter Collins, senior Ryan Dronzek, and sophomores Vito Roca, and Abraham Bluestone.
The conclusion of the meet saw the Gaels come out on top in the Men’s Novice Four. Iona-A clocked in with a time of 7:58.6. The team was compiled of coxswain Reynolds, and rowers Pietroforte, Gonzalez, Negron, James. Iona-B finished in third in the race. Mesqueue, Collins, Roca, Dronzek, and Bluestone led the charge, finishing with a time of 8:26.3.
